Canine Assisted Therapy, Inc. (C.A.T.) (www.catdogs.org) headquartered in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida is a non profit 501(c)(3) organization which provides certification and placement of therapy dogs and their handlers into nursing homes, hospitals, group homes, schools and where there is a need for the companionship of a dog.
Facilitated by Susan Claire, CPDT and Owner of Play Train Positive Dog Training, the event will be on Saturday, June 5, 2010 from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM. The informative seminar will take place at Independence Hall - Recreation Room
1639 Northeast 26th Street in Wilton Manors, Florida.
Dogs are constantly communicating with us and with each other. Their body signals tell us how they feel and what they want. The problem is that humans are primates and often misread a dog's communication or worse, act rudely toward the dog through the use of our "primate" body language.
If we learn how to read our dog by observing their body language, we can make their lives less stressful and our relationship with them more enjoyable.
Who should attend?
- Pet Therapy Volunteers
- Individuals who work with or are involved with animal rescue
- Multiple dog households
- People who use dog parks
- Those that attend social events with their dog
- Anyone considering getting a puppy or adopting a dog
- Anyone who owns a dog!
Topics being covered:
- What is your dog communicating to you and other dogs?
- How can you tell when dog play is about to turn ugly?
- How do dogs show friendliness, fear or stress?
- Dog interaction with children: Enjoyment vs. Tolerance
- Explanation of Pack Theory, Dominance and other "buzz words"
Susan teaches us how to read canine body language and understand inter-dog communication. Decoding Canine Body Language makes communication a two-way-street and creates a mutual respect between dog and owner.
Cost is $10.00 for C.A.T. Members; $15.00 for Non-C.A.T. Members. All registration fees are non-refundable. Register at: https://events.constantcontact.com/register/eventReg?oeidk=a07e2vqdlo8d07e24d4
C.A.T. is distinguishable from other pet therapy organizations because of the extensive testing of the dogs to insure proper temperament for therapy work, placement of volunteers in facilities, and overall support of volunteers.
