The breed of dog, Samoyed is one of the most beautiful dogs; this spitz-family member is known for its white fuzzy fur, black eyes and beautiful smiling face. The Samoyed is a medium to large size white Arctic dog, borrowed their names from Samoyedes, a nomadic Siberian tribe, who raised the breed for centuries for pulling sleds, herding, hunting and bed warming purposes. It's also been called the Samoiedskaia Sabaka, Samoyedskaya, Bjelkier, Sami, and Sammy. The However looks pretty; this is a sturdy working dog. Recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1906, the Samoyed is a member of the Working Group (although the breed could do equally well in the Herding Group and compete for titles in AKC Herding trials).
Samoyed is a dog of moderate build, almost square, with the length slightly longer than the height. It is a double-coated breed with upturned tail, dark eyes and a characteristic smile. They are often called Smiley Dogs. The nose is generally black, but a liver, brown, or Dudley (flesh-colored) nose is acceptable. The thick, silver-tipped coat comes in white, biscuit, yellow and cream, but pure white is preferred. The coat has a lovely silvery sheen. They are seasonally heavy shedders and shed heavily during warmer seasons so extensive grooming is needed.
The Samoyed does best in cooler climates, but will do okay in warmer weather. Their heavy coat makes these dogs unsuited to life in very hot climates. They have a reputation as a chewer and may become very destructive if left alone for many hours at a stretch. They're high-pitched barkers with a tendency to bark quite a bit, and can alert you when someone is approaching but the same time they are too friendly to be of much use as a watchdog.
The Samoyed has a variable personality.Samoyed Puppies could develop into serious or carefree dogs. Although highly intelligent, this breed can be difficult to train, for the dogs have a mind of their own. However they respond well to firm, consistent and patient training, which should be started as soon as possible. They also tire quickly of repetitive training, so do better with motivation. Their life expectancy is 12 to 16 years. They don't lose their childish banter or happy buoyancy as they age either.
The Samoyeds are one of the oldest breeds of dogs in the world and are by far the most unchanged. Elegant and agile, it is now one of the most fashionable show and companion breeds, yet has a history of hard work in severe and adverse conditions. Being a working breed, they have excellent stamina, and without daily exercise they will become bored and/or depressed, which can lead to excessive barking, destruction, weight gain, irritability, and escape artist behavior.
